Kittel is a passionate clinician and educator. He has taught at Berklee College of Music, Belmont University, Mark O’Connor Strings Camps and Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School. He has a master’s degree in jazz performance from the Manhattan School of Music and received the 2010 Emerging Artist Award from his alma mater, the University of Michigan. He has received numerous awards including the US National Scottish Fiddle Championship, six Detroit Music Awards and two Alternative Style awards. His sense of composition integrates the worlds of jazz and classical as well as folk into something larger with the help of the fiery musicianship of his band. What a Band! This all-volunteer nonprofit’s mission is to build and maintain a permanent concert audience and cultivate an interest in fine music among the citizens of the community and surrounding area.
