Gallery at the ACMC Office / Historic Ukiah Depot

depot smIn the summer of 2010, the Arts Council of Mendocino County relocated its office to Ukiah, the seat of county government. At this time, the Historic Ukiah Depot had just been rehabilitated after nearly 40 years of vacancy, vandalism, and neglect. The staff of the Arts Council envisioned bringing the building back to life as a public resource and, by virtue of its location along the rail tracks, restoring it as a symbol both of a specific place -- Mendocino County -- and of the ties that connect us to other places and people. Visitors to the building will find a wealth of information here about cultural events. THANK YOU, City of Ukiah, for making the Ukiah Depot central space available as a public resource!

openingIn addition to providing information about arts organizations, events, classes, and artists, ACMC volunteers present rotating exhibits in the central space of the Historic Ukiah Depot and frequently participate in First Friday Art Walk Ukiah. Arts Council members -- individuals, guilds, and arts organizations -- are invited to apply to ACMC to curate 4-8 week long exhibits at the Depot that focus on either a specific region within the county (Anderson Valley, North County, South Coast, etc.), a particular art form or craft (pottery, quilting, collage, mosaic, drawing, etc.), genre (landscape, abstract, portrait, etc.), theme (environment, social justice, cultural diversity, etc.) or some other cohesive unifying concept. Unless your focus is on a particular region, we ask that your call for work be open to artists throughout the county. (Click here: Call to Artists for a sample form.) Proposals for poetry readings, performances, fairs, screenings, etc., are also welcome.
