The Long Valley Water Protectors and Sponsors of the Mendocino Standing Rock Safe House are hosting a Standing Rock event March 19th at the Willits Center for the Arts, 12-3pm. ‘Standing Rock Report and Future Success Strategies,” will be family friendly, with food and refreshments provided, and Free to all: Donations to the Safe House will be matched up to $1000 by sponsor Mendo Blue.

Presenting at the event will be a longtime Mendocino Resident providing her first hand experiences after running a community funded Standing Rock Safe House since 12/28/16. The goal of the event is to share Standing Rock lessons for continued collaboration on environmental guardianship, public health, legal representation, Tribal government, and the mechanics of different self governance.

Due to numerous Mendocino residents’ generosity and support, we’ve been able to raise enough money to open and sustain a Safe House by Standing Rock for Water Protectors in need. This safe house has been a refuge and warm reprieve for water protectors on the front line at Standing Rock. House Guests also include Water Protectors struggling with long legal battles who don’t have family nearby or the funds to live in a hotel while trials proceed. The Safe House has central heating, laundry facilities, clean bedding and linens, bathroom stocked with personal toiletries, groceries, and home cooked meals.

Our Safe House is operated by a long standing Mendocino community member. She is a practiced Native Water-Rights Activist, and has been using her training in Disaster Management and Cultural Diversity out at Standing Rock. She has been leading education workshops, participating in organized legal support efforts, and netw o rking at and around camps. She has been transporting Safe House guests, Veterans, Medics, Journalists, and Water Protectors to camp, hospital stays, court-dates, supply runs, and more.

Water Protectors’ morale has been beaten down by continued militarized law enforcement. Guests, strong in prayer and peaceful in conviction, are struggling with the trauma inflicted on them by malicious state powers violently enforcing corporate privatized profits building and defending DAPL.
