From childhood Lynne Whiting Robertson had an interest in art and went on to major in art at Humboldt State University. From childhood Lynne Whiting Robertson had an interest in art and went on to major in art at Humboldt State University. She soon engaged in a career spanning three decades teaching independent study students for the Laytonville schools. All along she continued to paint in watercolor, oil and pastels. In 2009 she joined the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino and has been a favorite artist in the gallery ever since. Most of her work is done on location and she considers “Honoring nature is at the heart of my purpose as a painter. Painting outdoors adds authenticity to my work while meeting the challenge of capturing light a certain time of day.” That appreciation of her surroundings and attention to color and light is evident in all of her paintings.
Some of Lynne’s favorite places to paint are Big River, just south of Mendocino, the inland hills and forests, the California vineyards and that jewel of the Sierras, Yosemite. Whether it is the fall colors that she loves, or the sunshine of a spring day, Lynne’s work has a way of bringing these scenes to life.
