Julie describes their work: “Michael and Julie Burns find pleasure in their craft. This show will be a presentation of small boxes that Michael has constructed over the last few years along with a collection of Julie’s small quilts. Michael and Julie start work with exotic woods and beloved fabrics. After appreciating their materials as a whole, they cut them apart and begin the satisfying process of piecing them back together. Both use traditional techniques and find inspiration in masterworks and the materials themselves. They create original pieces intended to be both appealing and useful. Though they work in separate spaces, many of their tools are similar and they often find that construction follows suit. A mitered corner is a mitered corner! They share their ideas and find inspiration in each other’s work.
Michael has been a fine woodworker on the coast for many years and was the director of The College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program after Jim Krenov retired. Julie has shown her work on the coast, but most of her quilts have been distributed to family and friends to mark milestones and friendship.” Don’t miss this very special show from two fine local artists.
