Mendocino Obon Festival

Mendocino Coast folks are invited to an Obon Festival on August 12 in Mendocino Rotary Park from 12 to 4.

The Mendocino Sister City Association invites everyone to honor and remember deceased relatives with festivities and the hope spirits will return to share the day.

Chocin paper lanterns will be hung there to guide spirits and bon odori dances will be performed. Traditional Japanese crafts of flower arranging, origami, gift wrapping, block printing and calligraphy will be offered for adults and children alike. Japanese foods will also be available for purchase.

Taiko drumming, Shamisen and Shakuhachi music will be performed and there will be an Aikido demonstration. Join the community in remembering those who have gone before us for a day of all things Japanese.

This event is a fundraising event for Mendocino Sister City Association.
