With great sadness, today we made the very difficult decision to postpone our production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream until Fall 2020. This decision was heartbreaking for our students and staff who have worked so hard to bring this magical production to fruition. Rehearsing this play with our astonishing cast and crew has been one of the best theatre experiences of my career. It was a show that was truly ready to be shared with our community.
However, after reading about the potential for exponential spread of the virus in yesterday’s NY Times, and after considering the members of our cast whose health would be vulnerable were the virus to spread within our company, Technical Director Steve Decker and I ultimately decided that this was the only responsible choice at this time.
Our plan is to reschedule the production for Fall 2020 with as much of the same cast & crew as possible. Please stay tuned for information about dates for that run of the play. In the meantime, though, all performances of the Mendocino College production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream are cancelled for this semester. If you purchased a ticket for the play online, your purchase price will be refunded through Brown Paper Tickets. If you purchased a ticket at either the Mendocino Book Company or the College Bookstore, you have three options:
1) Hold onto your ticket. We will honor it at any of the rescheduled performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream next semester or at any of our upcoming college theatre productions.
*Note: Those who have already purchased tickets through BPT will be refunded.
2) Consider the ticket price a much appreciated and very much needed donation to our college theatre department, or
3) Contact me at this e-mail address to arrange for a refund of your ticket payment.
This has been a very difficult year for our community and for our department, with cancellations due to power outages in the fall and due to COVID-19 this semester. Your ongoing support in each of these situations has been greatly appreciated. Please stay safe, I look forward to welcoming you back to our college theatre very soon.
