This course is open to all writers of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and memoir as well as playwrights because we will cover the basics of character development, dialogue, conflict, and plot common to all genres of writing. In addition, playwriting uniquely teaches a writer to think visually and theatrically to emotionally connect with an audience.
No previous playwriting experience is required and we will cover the basics so that each student completes an original ten minute play in class. At our final meeting we will invite the public to see these plays produced onstage.
The course runs five Saturdays, 9/7 through 10/5, 10am to noon, in the Mendocino Theatre Company rehearsal room at the Community Center of Mendocino. Cost is $80.
