July- We the People (Laura and Katie in charge)

The month of our country’s birthday celebration is always a good time to reflect on who we are in the United States of America… especially as we find ourselves in the middle of a presidential election year. How do you relate to “We the people” in the twenty first century? Who are we? How do you see our accomplishments, our challenges, our hopes or even our failures? Use any medium, in any number of dimensions, to show us your thoughts.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday July 2 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday July 3 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the middle of June for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.

All unsold work must be picked up from the gallery at the end of the show on Saturday July 27 or Tuesday July 30, 11-5

The First Friday opening of this show is July 5, from 5-8pm.

August -   Dog Days of Summer  (Kate and Darrell in charge)

The “dog days of summer” is a phrase made popular during the time of the Roman Empire thousands of years ago. It refers to the rising and falling of Sirius, known as the “Dog Star,” during the hot and stifling summer months of July and August.

Where does your mind take you when you think of the dog days of summer? How do you (or your dog) react to the intense heat of our inland climate? Have some fun with this one and show us your creativity! Use any medium, in any number of dimensions, to show us what you see.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday July 30 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday July 31 between 11 and noon. Sept- Luna (Jacquie and Marilynn in charge)

There is a lot of amazing celestial activity happening in September this year. The moon will be a Super Harvest Moon, plus it will experience a partial lunar eclipse in the middle of the month. The September moon is famous for rising huge and bright right after sunset for several days in a row. What does this lunar magic do to you? Use any medium, in any number of dimensions, to show us what you see.

Oct- Quick Draw (Jacquie in charge)

By invitation only

Quick Draw is a proven crowd favorite, and it will return to ACU for another whirl this year. Invited artists will set up their easels on First Friday and draw live models throughout the evening. It’s a special opportunity for members of the public to witness the process of talented artists creating a likeness of a person from start to finish. The participating artists will all have finished examples of their work up on the walls, in addition to the sketches they create during the evening.

Nov “Try to Remember” (Darrell and Laura in charge)

“I remember when…” is an age-old beginning to a precious story about something from a time long past. Sharing memories is one of the things that connects us as human beings, and people of all ages find the stories fascinating. It is this sharing that keeps our memories alive and validates our presence on this earth.

What do you remember from your long-ago past? What ties you to a time before jet planes, computers and cell phones? Use any medium, in any number of dimensions, to show us what you see.

Open to all Mendocino and Lake County residents, $10 fee for each entry (limit of 3), with checks made out to Art Center Ukiah. Completed entry forms and all ready-to-hang work (NO sawtooth hangers) must be delivered for jurying to the Corner Gallery (201 S State St in Ukiah) on Tuesday October 29 between 11 and 5 or on Wednesday October 30 between 11 and noon. Artists are encouraged to email photos of their submissions to acuentries@yahoo.com by the middle of September for possible inclusion in the publicity for the show. Entry fee check will be returned with any work not accepted in the show.
