Aquifer Activist: Discover Cave Diving Exploration

On Tuesday, December 13^th at 6 pm, the Ukiah Library presents a multi-media talk, “Aquifer Activist: Discover Cave Diving Exploration,” with local film-maker Christopher Brown.

Chris will give a uniquely personal multi-media account of global cave diving exploration & karst aquifer. Enjoy his unique insight with photos, fossils, advanced proto-type technologies, maps, and stories of this astonishing scientific research conducted around the world.

In a fun presentation for all ages and interests, you’ll learn about paleo-history, movie monsters, fossil worlds, extremophiles — and the deepest depths of boundless curiosity!

Water is a critical issue, planet-wide, and what we are learning from cave exploration is truly spectacular! Exploring inside the Earth is difficult, exciting, and very dangerous. When you are 8 stories down the throat of a Caribbean cave where no light penetrates — submerged in a toxic liquid too — and squeezed by 6 times normal atmospheric pressure — things get tricky!

Despite vast obstacles, cave diving is a critical source of information, leading the way in protecting our threatened freshwater supplies around the world. Please join us for a very special entertaining & educational evening!

Christopher Brown’s career spans a fascinating range: filmmaker, archivist, journalist, management consultant, artist, and parent. As a media producer, his work involved freefall photography, broadcast news from DC’s Capitol Hill, industrial blast furnaces, music videos, marketing/advertising, and natural history specials for National Geographic & Public Television. But joining research projects by the US Deep Caving Team brought all his interests & skills to together for the most dangerous and personally satisfying work of all.
