The Mendocino Guitar Workshop brings together 18-20 fingerstyle enthusiasts for a week-long intensive workshop that includes master classes, lecture/demos, and one-on-one time with Alex de Grassi and, for the fourth year running, Grammy® award-winning classical guitarist, and sometimes duo partner, Andrew York, formerly of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. The workshop’s association with the concurrent Mendocino Music festival—two weeks of continuous concerts featuring a resident orchestra and an eclectic lineup of performers—provides an opportunity for Alex, Andrew, and the workshop students to perform in concert and feature a guitar orchestra piece composed and arranged by Alex. This year, the MGW is also presenting a North Coast Luthiers Exhibit across three galleries—Prentice, Highlight and Panache–in the village of Mendocino. To learn all about this and more, and to register for the workshop, please visit the MGW’s new website www.mendocinoguitarworkshop.com
The workshop, founded by Alex de Grassi and his wife Alison — and now in its 20th year — July 15-21, is an all-ages event for intermediate to advanced players interested in fingerstyle and classical guitar, as well as for singers who accompany themselves on guitar.
The workshop is open to all ages and now offers 6 tuition-free scholarships to qualifying students under 25 years made possible by scholarship sponsors Strings by Mail, Elixir Strings, Lowden Guitars, Tropo Records, and Diana Coryat & Ashok Khosla. The Arts Council of Mendocino County serves as the workshop’s fiscal sponsor and Classical Guitar and Acoustic Guitar Magazines provide media sponsorship (please see the workshop feature in the July/August edition of Acoustic Guitar).
