When Robert Pinoli first approached the ACMC with the idea for this 2009-2010 project, the ACMC’s response was ABSOLUTELY! ACMC is dedicated to showcasing our arts and creating opportunities for our member artists. This project also appealed because it matches our countywide focus — the Skunk Train is countywide – bridging the divide between coastal and inland Mendocino County.

Initially, the Arts Council put out a Call to Artists to our membership and beyond. We received an impressive response, but ultimately were drawn to Janet Self’s whimsical expression and use of color and appreciated Casey Koerner’s experience with large-scale murals and depiction of the animals and landscapes of our North Coast region. We liked their work so much, we couldn’t decide….so we offered them one side and one end each which resulted in a collaborative project.
