Gail Factor Retrospective Exhibition

Gail Factor Retrospective Exhibition

Presented by Mendocino Art Center at Mendocino Art Center

For Gail Factor, painting was a means to access serenity, a calm soul.

Artists throughout history have created bodies of work in an effort to solve their personal aesthetic dilemma. Laid at the feet of Factor’s quandary is a life’s work. The unrelenting impulse to create something of beauty and personal truth that resulted in five decades of focused and committed painting; a daily offering of sorts, whereby the act itself generated luminosity and eradicated darkness.

Harmonizing rich color, tone and texture, Factor strived for pure abstraction, but as images emerged, the past often made an unwitting appearance. Memories surfaced and integrated into the visual field. With only slight reference to the tangible world, she takes the viewer along on a journey through an altered reality, the unknown. She is after a synthesis of it all. Reaching for an archetype of her life experience, in paint.

Art is to the eye, as music is to the ear.

Gail Factor’s (1942-2013) work has been exhibited in prestigious galleries and museums throughout the United States. Most recently Gail Factor – Metamorphosis, a retrospective opened in October of 2014 with the University of Southern California, Los Angeles (USC) and was extended to a ten-month duration. This retrospective traveled from its debut with the Las Cruces Museum of Art – Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Pacific Grove Museum, The Museum of North Texas and the Taos Art Museum also featured selected works.
