1967. Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Pink Floyd, the doors. Where were you that year? Enjoy memorabilia of this iconic time from private collections: Bill Graham posters, BGP post cards, Stanley Mouse paintings, Alton Kelley poster.
The psychedelic scene was barely a year old, but Bay Area residents were already collecting the works of five young artists making names for themselves as masters of the psychedelic poster — Wes Wilson, Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse, victor Moscoso and Rick Griffin. The “Big Five” longed to be taken seriously as artists.
On July 17, 1967 (Sus’s Birthday!) they got their wish with a group exhibition at the Charles Moore Gallery on Sutter Street in San Francisco. Because of the era, the exhibition was titled “Joint Show” and each of the artists designed their own poster for the event.
Enjoy a little trip back in time at Gualala Arts Center with The Summer of Love exhibit and Summer of Love Fest celebrating Sus’s birthday with the mood of the time. 1967.
