Max DuBois Exhibition

Max DuBois Exhibition

Presented by Mendocino Art Center at Mendocino Art Center

Having been an artist since the age of six or earlier, the actual decision to become a lifelong artist came about rather early with the encouragement/mentorship of instructors who believed in me. Without this understanding, who knows where life would have gone.

As it is, though, I do love working in the realistic sense, trying to capture a model or a still life to a good degree, but ultimately, my heart is in the exploration of where does all this come from, how much of my soul comes through this ability to manipulate inks, paints, whatever I might be using. The so called abstract is really me-on-paper (or canvas or…), strangely enough my visible imprint on life.

Time spent with performance art shaped my thinking as nothing else would, opening my perception to places before unformed. The creative spark within is huge, endless. Life is.

MAX DUBOIS was born in Saginaw, Michigan, and studied at Western Michigan University in the Fine Arts with independent study under Curtis Rhodes. Max has attended other institutions for specific studies as well, including Ivy Tech, Indiana and Sonoma State University, CA. Degrees in Fine Arts as well as a minor in Psychology.

Max has studied and participated extensively in performance arts, exhibiting throughout the Midwest. DuBois’ degree in the fine arts also includes painting, printmaking and design with strength in conceptual works/abstractions.

With a hiatus of nearly 20 years, Max’s work resumed in earnest upon moving to California. Her work can be found in numerous private collections around the world with shows in Chicago, Ill; Kalamazoo, MI; and Santa Rosa and Berkeley, CA.
