SPACE Presents El Teatro en Llantas

Working with members of El Teatro Campesino for two exciting days, July 8 & 9, 2017, local artists and members of the Latino community of all ages will construct a variety show that will tour on a flatbed truck theater around the Valley this summer.  Since its inception, El Teatro Campesino and its founder and artistic director, Luis Valdez, have set the standard for Latino theatrical production in the United States. Founded in 1965 to support Cesar Chavez’s work, the company created and performed “actos” or short skits on flatbed trucks and in union halls.

The community project we are undertaking is a two-day feria teatral designed to engage young adults, entire families, monolingual and bilingual Spanish speakers, and artists (and non-artists) of all forms, in the head-to-toe creation of a traveling theater—from writing to rehearsing and building the mobile stage.  Performances will take place beginning in July.

For more information, join us Tuesday, June 13, 5:30 – 7:30 pm at The ARC Family Resource Center located at 1640 S. State St.  Free food and childcare provided.  To pre-register for dinner call The ARC FRC at (707) 234-3300.

This project is supported by The James Irvine Foundation and Mendocino College Theater Department.
