"The Digital Sea" by Robert Spies

Presented by Artists' Co-op of Mendocino at Artists’ Co-op Of Mendocino

We all appreciate the beauty and power of the ocean, but most of us don’t really know a great deal.

Robert Spies’ career as a marine scientist has given him a chance to not only understand, but to actively work to restore the marine environment. one of his biggest projects was to assess the extent of the damage after the 1989 Exon Valdez oil spill off the coast of Prince William Sound, Alaska.  Robert holds a Ph.D. in marine biology and co-hosts a monthly radio program, “The Ecology Hour” on KZYX, Mendocino County Public Radio.  Tune in on Tuesdays to learn more.

Spies has been making waves in the local art scene for the last 15 years, ever since taking up residence in Little River.  Though much of his art is an exploration of other themes, his mixed media piece “The Digital Sea” reflects his passion for encouraging awareness and returning the health of the marine environment of our planet.  But as he remarks, “Language about art is pretty weak tea”.

Best you come and see for yourself at the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino between March 6th and April 1st.

You are invited to Second Saturday, extended hours, to meet Artist Robert Spies from 4:00 to 7:00.
