Coast Highway Art Collective exhibit Cainhowlett, woodblock prints & Polly Hutcheson, handmade books

Presented by Coast Highway Art Collective at Coast Highway Art Collective

March exhibit features Handmade books and woodblock prints.

An opening reception at the Coast Highway Art Collective in Point Arena will be held on Saturday, March 2 from 3 to 7pm. The featured artists are Polly Frenaye-Hutcheson, handmade books, and Cainhowlett, wood block prints. The members of the Collective welcome the community to this special afternoon event. The show runs from March 1 through March 31.

Frenaye-Hutcheson’s handmade books explore themes and connect ideas.  “These compositions link emotions, colors, associations and memories in successive images, Frenaye-Hutcheson says. “They are humorous, heartfelt and unruly.” She hopes to delight others by affectionately playing with language and formats.

Polly attended the San Francisco Art Institute and San Francisco State University with a Liberal Studies major and Fine Arts minor.  For 30 years she taught Fine Arts and other curriculum to public school students.

Her handmade books often use inkjet printing on matte photo paper, using accordion, star, and pop-up methods.  Each artwork is one-of-a-kind.  No wall space is needed for these quirky tomes.  The artist hopes there’s a book that speaks to each viewer or would make a thoughtful gift for someone!  To see more of her work, visit https://www.instagram.com/frenayehutcheson/?hl=en

Liam Ericson, aka Cainhowlett, is an emerging artist specializing in wood block printing. This exhibit features the beginning of a dream series he is currently working on. When asked for his artist bio for this article, he responded “To be honest, the art reflects the bio and it is everything that I have to say, honestly. I have two more dreams that will eventually be part of this little mini-series.”

The Coast Highway Art Collective is located at 284 Main St., Point Arena, the little red building with the big yellow sun, located next to the Redwood Coast Credit Union.
