The Redwood Community Chorus, presents its fall concert at the Mendocino Presbyterian Church on December 9 a 7 p.m. and on December 10 at 2 p.m, featuring songs of the harvest and the holidays. Admission is free. A donation is requested.
The opening act will be Trebl’d Women, a happy group singing eclectic music for the season. The chorus opens its show with the beautiful, but heart-rending song, A Lullaby. Harvest, which reflects wistfulness and peace follows. Soli Deo Gloria, a beautiful choral setting is accompanied by the Mendocino Brass.
A highlight of the show is Jabberwocky, Lewis Carol’s amusing parody on the, musical attitudes of large traditional choral works. Adding to the fun is work of Tess Albin-Smith, Symphony of the Redwoods’ percussionist, who uses baby rattles, ratchets, bird calls and a toy glockenspiel to punctuate the piece.
Conducted by Jenni Windsor, the concert includes the historic African-American spiritual, Down by the Riverside, which is sung by a chorale.
Admission is free. A donation is requested.
