“Don’t Be A Goose” at Gualala Arts

“Don’t Be A Goose” at Gualala Arts

Presented by Gualala Arts at Gualala Arts Center

Each year, the Pacific Piecemakers Quilt Guild, the PPQG, selects a theme and organizes a challenge for member quilt makers, and each year’s theme draws visitors to see just how the quilt makers took up the creative challenge.

Past themes included “Journeys” and “Flying Free”. This year’s theme is “Don’t Be A Goose”, and the artists’ interpretations of that challenge will be revealed at the exhibit’s opening at Gualala Arts on Friday, May 12 with a reception from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For those who have not visited Gualala Arts or explored the beautiful quilts entered in earlier challenges, visitors will find that the beauty offered in this medium will likely surpass expectations. Creativity abounds throughout the exhibit, as each artist’s work incorporates the required theme/image in their own way. This year’s challenge rules were simple: the quilt or quilted object must utilize a goose or geese. The bird(s) can be standing still or in flight or anything in between.  The art can be as formal or non-traditional as the artist’s eye dictates. At the end of the day, creativity will be found everywhere.

Visitors will also be pleased to know that all of the quilts entered into this challenge must have been created within the past two years. While family heirlooms and antique quilts may be wonderful, this exhibit is about quilters contemporary take on the theme and the art. All of the pieces entered must not have been previously exhibited at any public event.

Quilts entered in the “Don’t Be A Goose” challenge will be on display in both the Burnett Gallery and Coleman Hall at Gualala Arts through Sunday, June 4, 2023. Gualala Arts is at 46501 Old State Highway, Gualala. Information can be found at GualalaArts.org, and at 707-884-1138.
