Willits Center for the Arts opens a traveling show

Willits Center for the Arts opens a traveling show "High off the Land"

Presented by Willits Center for the Arts at Willits Center for the Arts

Cannabis has a long and colorful history in Mendocino County, and it affects both residents and visitors in diverse ways. It has fueled our economy for years and has recently become legal.

With 20/20 hindsight on half a century of local cannabis cultivation and use, it’s time to speak about the different aspects of how it speaks to all of us. Willits Center for the Arts asked artists to visually interpret their own experiences with cannabis. How has it affected you or your environment? We asked artists for either two-dimensional or three-dimensional art. We are very pleased with the results.

Those deciding on pieces for the show will be David Burton of the Grace Hudson Museum and Alyssum Wier of the Arts Council of Mendocino. The producers and creatives who organized the show are Gary Martin of Willits, Laura Fogg from Ukiah, and Kendra Stillman of Gualala.

This show will be May 6 through May 28 2023 at Willits Center for the Arts. Then move to Art Center Ukiah in June, and Gualala Art Center in July 2023.

The opening reception will be May 6th from 6:30 until 9 pm. You can meet the artists at this time. Gallery hours are Friday-Sunday, 11 am until 5 pm.

The Willits Center for the Arts is located at 71 East Commercial St. Willits, CA 95490.
