The Queen of Boogie Woogie, Wendy DeWitt

The Queen of Boogie Woogie, Wendy DeWitt

Presented by The Mendocino County Library at Ukiah Library

On Tuesday, November 15th at 6:30 pm, Mendocino County Library, Ukiah Branch is hosting pianist, Wendy DeWitt, with a free interactive and lively presentation on Boogie Woogie and Blues piano music.

Wendy is an International Blues Challenge Finalist and has taught workshops at Port Townsend’s Centrum Blues Week, Augusta Blues and Heritage Week, and Berkeley JazzSchool. Her presentations are noted for enthusiasm, fun, and audience involvement. Bring your ears and sense of curiosity and learn about America’s most grooving roots music.

Boogie Woogie and Blues are at the heart of rock and roll, jazz and pop and yet most people can’t really answer the question “What is boogie woogie?” Popular all over the world, with boogie woogie festivals being held in Spain, Hungary, Austria and more, America’s favorite piano music remains vital and can be heard in ads and in popular media. Come to this fun presentation and learn about what made America rock, and went on to rock the world.

Wendy DeWitt recently relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area and brings with her a passion cultivated while growing up in Sonoma County influenced by the Schellville Southside Blues Band and Western Swing Hall of Famer Tommy Thomsen. She went on to tour with Hank Ballard and the Midnighters, perform with Otis Rush, and regularly appear at international blues and boogie woogie festivals around the U.S. and Europe. Her many CDs are played worldwide and she’s been featured on podcasts including “Music On the Couch.” Wendy produces The Queens of Boogie Woogie, San Francisco International Boogie Woogie Festival and Blues Piano Orgy.

Upon moving to Ukiah Wendy was immediately snapped up by Spencer Brewer for a performance at the Professional Pianist’s Concert, and a KZYX Radio house concert benefit in Talmage with Wendy and Spencer raised money for the station. A future show will benefit the Ukiah School of Music. Wendy is dedicated to inspiring through the joy of boogie and blues piano with performances, presentations, and teaching and can be reached at 510-847-5847.

See you at the Library, November 15th, 6:30pm.
