About the Artist
Mary Tinder is a portrait artist living and working in Fort Bragg, CA, since 2021. She grew up in Vacaville, CA, and earned a Bachelors in Studio Art at California State University, Sacramento, in 2020, shortly after the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Her work is heavily inspired by her own experience as a young woman growing and navigating the modern world. Mary expresses through her work her emotional states while processing the feelings of simply existing in such a fast-paced, stimulating, and sometimes tumultuous environment. She is both hopeful and critical, melancholic and joyful, peaceful and in constant flux.

Most of her work is self-portraiture, using acrylic paints, fabric from her Grandma’s sewing room, and gold or silver leaf or paint. Her technique of defining the human form is drawn from her love for geography and topography, and her wide range of colors span both the muted or pastel colors of nature as well as the vibrancy and boldness of the man-made world.

Mary is also interested in branching out from portraiture with landscape works inspired by the beautiful Mendocino Coast. She is also available for commissioned work, and is excited about exploring new forms, whether other people, pets or abstract. She hopes that she never stops growong artistically, expanding her comfort zone, and trying new materials, techniques and subjects.

Over her lifetime, Ann Erickson has worked with pastels, ink brush painting, black and white
illustration and watercolors.

Ann moved to Mendocino County in 2020 and now paints watercolors, often outdoors at the ocean.
