Jug Handle Nature Center's Annual Spring Native Plant Nursery Sale

The nursery is located at 15501 N. Highway One in Caspar,  down the hill behind the beautiful red Victorian Farmhouse.

Some of the plants in bloom right now and available for purchase are:

Wood rose, Rosa gymnocarpa; Purdy’s Iris, Iris purdyi,;  Western Ninebark, Physocarpus capitatus; Beach strawberry, Fragaria chiloensis; Fat False Solomon’s Seal, Maianthemum racemosum; Blue – eyed grass, Sisyrinchium bellum; Cow clover, Trifolium wormskioldii; Twinberry, Lonicera involucrata; Western Burning Bush, Euonymus occidentalis; Scouler’s valerian, Valeriana sitchensis ssp. scouleri; Sticky monkeyflower, Mimulus aurantiacus; Indian pink, Silene laciniata ssp. laciniata; Stonecrop, Sedum spathulifolium; California poppy, Eschscholzia californica.  We have many more species available.

We also have several additional local native shrubs and trees available during the sale.

Our restoration/education native plant nursery grows plants for restoration and mitigation projects in the coastal area to help State Parks, the Nature Conservancy, the WRA, the Mendocino Land Trust and other conservation groups, as well as local gardeners who want to dedicate space to native plants.

Jug Handle has been a leader in the Caspar gorse eradication project, seeking to replace this and other invasive plants and noxious weeds with native plants to restore natural habitats.

In most years, school children whose classes come to Jug Handle for Nature Education take part in activities at the nursery contributing stewardship at the nursery while learning the value of native plants in the environment.
