Karen Bowers presents water media paintings at the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino, Kasten at Albion Sts through the month of May.
“Fog Works” by Karen Bowers is the Featured Art for May at the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino. Karen’s water media paintings are rendered interpretive and suggestive by her painting process. She begins her work on paper with water. “Water is my foundation.”
“Navarro Beach,” her show’s central piece, represents the beginning of Karen’s use of fog as a key ingredient: “Clarity was gone. I let it go. On a foggy day, my work became open to possibilities unseen. In my studio, I soak paper and use gouache to recreate this atmosphere: Soft sky water landing on my paper, no chance of paint drying. Pigment floating over wet paper. Water and color. No direction known. These days, clarity seems harsh. Fog Work is what I have turned to.”
Karen’s soft peaceful atmospheric paintings of sea and landscapes, botanicals too, are showcased from May 4 through June 6. Come and see them for yourself at the Artist’s Co-op of Mendocino located at the corner of Kasten and Albion Streets in Mendocino, open daily from 11am to 4pm; phone is (707) 937-2217.
