There is something very gratifying about Judy Chance-Hope’s work. It is elemental and direct. Judy told us ‘Art is one of the few jobs I’ve had that allows me to use my own decisions completely. I paint in oil and acrylic using a loose realism and a personal palette.  I find that the longer I look at the subject, the more colors I can see. My work is a celebration of a subject or place I find meaningful. I try my best to share the childlike awe and joy I see there.’

Each person who looks at a painting perceives it a little differently, informed by their own experiences, making the artwork unique over and over. Judy encourages that interaction. Once the work is out of the studio, it gathers new stories.  Judy’s many patrons give her paintings new life and new stories.

Judy was born in California and feels grateful to have lived in the forest most of her life. She lives with her husband, Charlie, their dog Moe, along with chickens, and outdoor cats. Judy’s daughter, Diza Hope, is another renowned artist here in Willits.

The show opens on October 1st through the 24th of October.  Located at 71 E. Commercial St. (next to the Noyo Theater).
