Four artists from the Mendocino Calligraphy Study Group – Judy Detrick, Robert Ross, Larry Thomas and Linda Turner – exhibit their calligraphy online.
The Mendocino Art Center is hosting an online exhibit of Mendocino’s Calligraphy Studio Group work, August 6 through September 3, at MendocinoArtCenter.org.
Mendocino Coast calligrapher/designer Judy Detrick, who taught calligraphy and graphic design at College of the Redwoods for more than 25 years, put out a call seven years ago to former students and a few other artists who had expressed an interest in learning calligraphy to form their collective.
Drawing on their various experiences in the art world, Mendocino’s Calligraphy Study Group meets once a week to share information on tools, techniques, and concepts that enrich their calligraphic expressions. “I have made it my goal to help in any way I can to see how far these now very good friends of mine can go with this,” says Judy. “We exhibit at least once a year locally, and some have had work published in various review journals. The lovely results speak for themselves.” Along with Judy, fellow artists Robert Ross, Larry Thomas and Linda Turner, will exhibit their calligraphy.
