Sue Ellen Parkinson’s uplifting show, titled “Affirmation,” will be at Northcoast Artists Gallery, from, July 10 through Aug 2.
Parkinson is a visionary artist who explores the Sacred Feminine. Coming from outside the Christian tradition, her work has led her on an unexpected journey that has profoundly changed her life. Her non-tradional icons, are interesting from both a philosophical and everyday perspective. Within them, she weaves elements of her own life, into the legends surrounding the Christian mystics. She says, “I’m taking back the negative stories about women and retelling them in such a way that is life affirming.” In her painting of Eve, titled, “Guided By Stars,” Eve appears as a grandmother, who feels perfectly fine about eating her apple. She’s even got an appleseed necklace and apple blossoms in her halo! Parkinson is a strong believer, that creativity, is soul-work, and an essential component in transformation.
