Mixed Media Collage - Online Workshop

Presented by Mendocino Art Center at Mendocino Art Center

Instructor: Evelyn Klein

July 20, 23, 27 & 30, 2020
(Mondays & Thursdays, 10am–12pm PDT)

Structure of Class: 4 two-hour Zoom classes
In this class you will be learning how a variety of materials behave, and about their properties, so that you will be able to manipulate and combine them in various media.
Adding layers to one’s work creates depth, mystery and light. We will start with layers of collage material such as prints, drawings, photographs, found objects, stencils and plant material to which we will add monotype.

Next, we will collage using Golden acrylic mediums. At this point we will laminate the work onto a wood panel, canvas, paper or other support, and then proceed to work with cold wax, oil pastels and oil glazes as added layers to further deepen the work.

This class is highly recommended to help participants at all levels loosen up and grow in their artistic development.

In this course you will have the opportunity to create 2D and 3D works. It is not a requirement to create prints, but I will demo monotypes hand printed as an added layer to incorporate in the collage work.

Works can be created on a wood panel, as an accordion book, wall hanging on fabric, mobile, floor installation, etc. The artist’s vision will dictate the format. This course gives the student complete freedom to exercise their artistic concept. The instructor will be there every step of the way to consult, guide and support the student during their process.

This class will be taught online through Zoom, Mondays and Thursdays, 10am–12pm PDT. Students must have regular access to a computer with high-speed Internet access and be familiar with using the Internet.

Students are required to meet online each session during the scheduled class time. Students will have a few days to continue work on their own between sessions, and can email or call the instructor for questions.

I will give live demonstrations online using Zoom and a camera HoverCam, to make the whole demo live to students, who can have a regular discussion, ask questions and see each others work as well as the demo. I will be there to assist and guide you through discussions or any other questions you might have.
