Happy Hyder’s fine art photography show will open on First Friday, April 3, at Edgewater Gallery in Fort Bragg.
Happy/L.A. Hyder, celebrating fifty years in photography and three years as a member of Edgewater Gallery, will exhibit b&w and color film work spanning the 1970s through 2000s and 2009 to quite recent digital images.
Hyder says: “In1969, gravitating to the camera for expression, I found a language, a way to present beauty in the ordinary, and the ordinary as extraordinary. I claimed the title ‘photographer’ from the moment I held my first camera and immediately joined the SF Photography Center where I was let loose in a darkroom. Now, I enjoy the ease of digital printing that allows me to experiment and inspires me to layer images with images, sometimes as triptychs or in a mandala form, with my own (and others’) writing.”
This March, Hyder is choosing to feature work done in Budapest during a 2012 trip along with scenes familiar to locals and frequent visitors, albeit through her own visual interpretation. She will speak about her work at 6 pm at our First Friday opening.
