A classic of absurdist theatre that has an uncanny relevance in this election year.
When we closed our doors until further notice, we had no idea that the reopening of theatres across the world would be many months away. It is now clear to us that the gravity and unpredictability of this pandemic prevents us from going forward as planned with our 2020 season. Therefore, we are officially cancelling the season.
The power-hungry Ubu and his equally ambitious wife will stop at nothing to gain and maintain power in this classic piece of absurdist theatre inspired, in part, by Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Director Katherine Nigh (They Don’t Pay? We Won’t Pay! ) brings a particular sense of fun and her own stylistic interpretation to Alfred Jarry’s still-controversial play from 1896, which is uncannily relevant in this election year.
“It is timeless, placeless, and it shamelessly displays what civilization tries hard to hide.” –Barbara Wright
