Vertigo is considered by Hitchcock aficionados as the master filmmaker at the pinnacle of his creative powers and by all measures a masterpiece of cinema. The film underwent a major restoration in 2018 to create a new 70mm print and DTS soundtrack and we will be screening the 4K digital version of this restoration.

Rich in symbolism and psychological tension all given new depth and meaning in the age of #metoo, the performances that often felt stiff in the 1950’s now feel entirely appropriate and eerily prescient. Especially beloved by residents of Northern CA as it was filmed in San Francisco in it’s golden period and features a gorgeous, extended sequence amidst the redwoods of Muir Woods.

Vertigo replaced Citizen Kane as the “greatest film ever made” in the British Film Institute’s Sight & Sound critics’ poll and appears repeatedly in polls of the best films by the American Film Institute including a ranking as “the ninth greatest American movie of all time.
