The Coast Highway Art Collective (CHAC) was formed in March 2012.  The group includes a variety of artists working in different media, and all of whom live at or near the coast of the Pacific Ocean, in an area called “Mendonoma,” which includes southern Mendocino County and northern Sonoma County in California.

Our gallery in Point Arena has a long art history.  The building which is easily recognizable by its red paint and the bright yellow sun was originally a home for a family with five children.  Decades ago the building was converted into an art gallery and was known as City Art.  Many artists in the community contributed to creating the gallery and using it for exhibits.  After standing vacant for a time, CHAC decided to refurbish the building and use it for year-round displays of members’ art.  Guest artists are also invited to exhibit at the gallery. The artists take turns staffing the gallery, so whenever someone visits, there is an artist present.  The building with its charming garden is sometimes used for community events.

We are featuring artists, Scott Sewell, photography, Gretchen Barton, ceramics, Colette Coad, glass art ornaments and Teresa Van Granath, fabric arts. Musical guest Sharon and Jim Leiberman Bards of a Feather.

About Bards of a Feather

We do some pretty old folk tunes from back in the 1920s.  Those are mostly blues tunes by the likes of Mississippi John Hurt and people like him.  We do the a lot of Sixties and Seventies songs, written by the likes of Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Ian, and Sylvia Tyson, Emmylou Harris (hers border on Country & Western), Tom Russell, et al. Our most modern tunes are from Tish Hinojosa, both in Spanish and English, Rodney Crowell and a few others.  We also do Mexican tunes that we learned on the streets of Mexico back in the 70s when we were living there.  We have a couple of French songwriters whom we love, Georges Moustaki, Alain Souchon, Enrico Macías, and do some of their tunes en français.
