Eighth Annual Artists-Writers Collaboration 

Visual Artists + Writers = 2019 Ekphrasis VIII. For the eighth year, the Artists Co-op of Mendocino has collaborated with the Writers of the Mendocino Coast culminating in the annual Ekphrasis Exhibition, and associated special events. Ekphrasis, a Greek word, translates as “art describing other art.” Twenty pairs of visual art and writing are on display. For ten of them, visual artists responded to writings; for the other ten, writers responded to visual art.The participants were paired randomly and anonymously. By random, we mean we picked numbers out of a hat. By anonymous, we mean no one knew the titles of the writings/artworks nor authors/artists’ identities.

A high point of the Second Saturday reception on Oct. 12th is finding out who was inspired by whom and having a chance to talk about the results. If you want to enjoy the writings and artworks in quieter surroundings, visit the gallery again on your own or with a friend. The gallery is open 10:30-5:00 daily.

Here are important dates for your calendar: The exhibition at the Artists’ Co-op runs October 2nd through November 4th. On October 12th join us for the Second Saturday reception at the Artists’ Co-op, Kasten x Albion Sts, Mendocino, 5-8PM with Artists/Authors’ Talks at 5:30.

On October 17, the Writers of the Mendocino Coast will feature readings by the Ekphrasis authors accompanied by a slide show of the visual artworks, 6PM meeting in the Garden Room, Mendocino Hotel. Guests are welcome.
