Refugee Stories of Hope, Courage and Humanity

Presented by Pop-Up Culture Club of Ukiah at Grace Hudson Museum

Refugee Stories of Hope, Courage and Humanity is a project of documentation and storytelling portraying the experiences of refugees around the world.

Local author and activist Megan Carson collaborated on the book “Let Me Tell You My Story,” along with an international group of award-winning photographers, filmmakers, painters, and writers. Since 2016, the NPO “Their Story Is Our Story” (TSOS) has traveled extensively in order to document the flood of refugees pouring into the West from the Middle East and Africa, recording the refugees’ firsthand accounts of who they are and what drove them to seek refuge.

Bay Area sculptor, printmaker and mixed-media artist Luna Ruth Paesch spent three months as a volunteer teacher in refugee camps and community centers in Greece during a recent sabbatical year, which inspired her to create “Das Boote Projekt” (The Boats Project), an installation work, and her “Mediterranean Series“ of large graphite scrolls.

Luna’s works will be on view in the Community Room at Grace Hudson Museum, 431 South Main Street, on Saturday August 10, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. Presentations by Luna, Megan and other project contributors will be at 11:00 am and 3:30 pm. This event is free with museum admission.
