In July much of Gualala Arts is focused on the upcoming Auto Show, a fact not lost on visitors walking into the Arts Center and seeing two Porsches in the lobby (and Porsche images in the Burnett Gallery.) Contrasting the implied speed of the autos is the July art exhibit in the Elaine Jacob Foyer which will include the dreamier selected works of local artist John “Simon” Burnett. An opening reception is set for Friday, July 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Arts Center. The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibits will continue through Sunday, July 28, 2019.

Displayed throughout the Elaine Jacob Foyer are Selected Works of Burnett, who refers to his paintings for this show as “Dreamscapes.”  “There is a part of the mind that creates stories and images in a fraction of a second.  We call them ‘dreams.’  These dreams are often charged with great emotion and meaning, even though we don’t understand them right away.  My work comes from the dream-making part of the mind.  The ideas come and I record them.”

We’re pleased that part-time Sea Ranch resident John “Simon” Burnett shares his paintings–or, dream images–in the Elaine Jacob Foyer during July. Burnett has curated a number of shows at the Gualala Arts Center, including some of the Automotive Art shows, The Charlotte Burnett Retrospective in 2011, and the Rex Burnett automotive drawings show in 2009.
