The 1963 comedy, “Irma La Douce,” starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine, screens at the Soper Reese Theatre on Tuesday, August 13, at 1:00 and 6:00 pm. Entry to the film is by donation.
This romantic comedy opens with a warning: its chief concerns are passion, bloodshed,
desire, and death. “Everything,” exclaims the narrator, “that makes life worth living.”
MacLaine as Irma, Paris’ most successful prostitute, and Lemmon as the self-righteous
cop, end up together of course, unabashedly celebrating life, lust, emotion, fervor and
above all, foolish love.
The movie is sponsored by Karen Weston and Nancy Hudson. Not rated. Run time is 2
hours and 24 minutes.
