She earned a BA in art from Humboldt State University in 1979, and began a 33 year career as an independent study teacher for the Laytonville Unified School District. During this time she continued painting in watercolors, pastels and oils. She joined the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino in 2007. ADDITIONALLY, Her work has been shown at the Willits Center for the Arts, the Grace Hudson Museum and the Mendocino Art Center. Currently a board member for the Willits Center for the Arts, she enjoys giving back by enhancing the arts in our northern Mendocino county.
About plain air painting, she says, “Honoring nature is at the heart of my purpose as a painter. Enticing the viewer to examine and engage in the setting is paramount. Painting outdoors adds authenticity to the work while meeting the challenge of capturing light at a certain time of day.”
Lynne Whiting’s show can be seen June 5th through July 1st. The gallery, open daily 10:30-5, is located at Kasten x Albion Streets in Mendocino. Come to the Second Saturday reception June 8th, 5-8pm, with her Artist’s Talk at 5:30.
