Northcoast Artists Gallery is pleased to present the March show of fine woodworking, featuring a group of their guest artists. The show,”Wood,”spotlights the work of five alumni from the esteemed Krenov School of Fine Woodworking on display.
This exhibit began in October 2018, and continues through April 1, 2019.
James Krenov is renowned for his many books on woodworking. He came to Mendocino in the late 1970’s to teach a workshop at the College of the Redwoods. His knowledge and principles were so well received that he was persuaded to stay on and establish a school of fine woodworking. During his tenure, the Krenov School gained an international reputation for excellence and continues to attract students from all over the world. It was recently transferred from the College of the Redwoods to the auspices of Mendocino College. Krenov died about 10 years ago but his legacy lives on and is visible in each one of these artists.
The featured woodworkers are: Laura Mays, (current Director and instructor at the school), Michael Burns (retired Director), and former students Tom Lees, Joshua Sterns and Robin Wilson. Each of these woodworkers has a unique style and direction. They create with the most beautiful woods, giving life and shape to just about every object they can imagine. The craftsmanship is inspiring.
Come in and enjoy the regeneration of this disappearing art form! The artist at the front desk will be happy to assist you in showing you all the details.
