Presented by Dharma Realm Buddhist University at City of 10,000 Buddhas

Dharma Realm Buddhist University (DRBU) presents Śākyamuni Buddha: A Story, a series of ceramic reliefs by Lorraine Capparell. The exhibition opening reception, which is open to the public, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16th. The exhibition continues through May 31st at the second floor of the newly renovated University Building.
Śākyamuni Buddha: A Story evolved from a collaboration between the artist and Professor Ronald Y. Nakasone of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Ms. Capparell illustrated Dr. Nakasone’s book, entitled Ethics of Enlightenment, Essays and Sermons in Search for a Buddhist Ethic. “In the process of doing these pictures, I became fascinated with the images and myths associated with the life of the Buddha,” said Capparell. “I was not content to let these images remain in two dimensions. Because I am a sculptor, it was natural to me to render the illustrations in bas relief. The result is this show.”
