Joell Jones: A Story of Self

Joell Jones: A Story of Self

Presented by Mendocino Art Center at Mendocino Art Center

This is a story about the twists and turns of life. These six series show how an external catalyst caused a shift in the work that became a journey to preserve the Self. This adventure of Self interweaves life and art, symbol and self.

A cherished relationship ended abruptly, without closure. As my sense of self shattered, the art shifted back to the familiar. Older symbols from past work reappeared, offering clarity and guidance. Along the way a new symbol emerged.

During the course of these six series, my relationship to the work shifts from universal to personal and, then back again – from being a partner in exploration to a guide.
