Her show, opening October 31, is called “Paper, Patterns, Places.”

Her medium is encaustic, and the work in this show includes images she has taken from places she has traveled, which she then printed, and used as fragments of collage elements. Lisa came to encaustic via print making when a fellow printer introduced her to the medium. She was immediately taken by the surface, the brilliance of the colors, and the diversity the medium invites. Now, years later, it continues to lure her in different directions, exploring the ability to layer, to embed, to excavate, to draw with a pen, and to create textures.

From Lisa, “I’m drawn to patterns in nature, and in architecture, and try to incorporate that into my imagery. In addition, I have included a few pieces inspired by a recent workshop I participated in, painting rice papers and using them for collage, as some encaustic pieces that rely on transparency. “Encaustics offer a great deal of diversity and exploration of process, and it’s investigating and experimenting with process that fuels my work. Working with the wax engages me, challenges me and inspires me. I continue to work with a mix of control and surrender, and follow the paths that open.”
