Mendocino Coast artist Virginia Ray’s exhibit, “A Curious Life,” features her whimsical and imaginative studies, and is much like walking through a natural history museum, curiosity shop, and meditation temple.
“What is that SPARKLE of life that unexpectedly catches our attention and heart? Wonder, curiosity and awe live right under our nose. Often we’re too busy to notice. In our shiny, technological world ‘new’ is not always better. To me, nothing compares to the charm and mystery of weathered and worn castoffs. Fascinating untold stories are held in these treasures of humanity.
“I love studying ordinary and mysterious objects found in our everyday life. The art of placement, making sense out of seemingly unrelated items is like a game or puzzle. A traveler at heart, vintage trunks and travel suitcases keep finding their way to me.
“Vintage graters inspired my Grateful Series. Gratitude is a timely virtue. A simple, yet powerfully transforming attitude for walking in life.
“Enjoy the treasure hunt quality of my art. May you recognize the grace and beauty ever present in ordinary life.”
