Out of the Ashes Poetry Reading

Presented by Ukiah Library at Ukiah Library

On Sunday, October 21st from 2-4pm the Mendocino County Library, Ukiah Branch is hosting Out of the Ashes Poetry Reading.

Out of the Ashes is a community arts project that was organized to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the 2017 Redwood Complex Fire through art to celebrate community rebuilding. Out of the Ashes/Art from the ashes has been recognized as an important form of art and as a means to express the emotions and observations of the survivors and others affected by the fires. Over the past six weeks, Ukiah Poet Laureate, Michael Riedell along with Ukiah Poets Laureate Emeritus, Linda Noel and Theresa Whitehill, offered Out of the Ashes Writing Workshops at the Ukiah Branch Library to guide and teach participants the process of transforming their feelings and experiences of the fires into poetry.

In remembrance of the historical wildfires, everyone is invited to attend the Out of the Ashes poetry and prose reading. Readings will be presented by the writers from the series of workshops who wrote poetry and prose to express how the fires affected them. The Ukiah Poets Laureate will be presenting their original poetry along with the workshop participants who wish to share their work to the public.

This event is free to the public and sponsored by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library.
