The Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino presents Stephen Garner as our Featured Artist for November. Garner, currently a member of the Co-op, has been part of the Mendocino coast art scene for many years. His watercolors are described as having a sense of light and design that reveals a certain clarity through restraint, producing imagery that has elegance and simplicity that is not overstated. Additionally, a viewer at a distance is rewarded by intriguing details on closer inspection. 

For his exhibition, entitled “Sill.Life,” Stephen has gathered paintings done over several years, many never shown before. He likes to play with dimensionality, for example using a 2D photo in collage-like fashion with a 3D sculpture represented by a seasonal squash. Other still-lives include figure drawings. The show theme is developed conceptually through content that is “still alive,” “still objects,” “still life.”
