The hilarious and unpredictable country comedy, “Revival at Possum Kingdom Community Church” shows at Willits Community Theatre from October 5th through 21st.
It opens at Willits Community Theatre on Friday October 5th for a three-week run. The play by Texas playwright Linda LaRoque is directed by Jim Williams. This charming caper set in rural Texas in the 1950s features two down-on-their-luck conmen who try conning the Lord in his own house–with much-unexpected consequences. The two would-be hustling sharpies, Alvo T. Haggarty played by Mike A’Dair, and Buddy Peacock played by Kevin Moore, find themselves broke and stranded in the small town of Possum Kingdom. If they can just get their hands on enough money to get to the next big town, everything will work out fine. Also appearing in the production are Kelly Kesey as Iris Crumb, Lisa Wilcox as Ella Faye Tanner, and Dan Ramsey as Phillip Yates Jr.
Posing as a big city preaching team, Buddy and Alvo intend to fleece the friendly local folk out of their hard-earned cash. Things start to look up when they convince kindly local Ella Faye and her friend Iris that they are just the preaching team that Possum Kingdom’s under-populated community church needs. Everything is set for a rip-roaring revival. However, the question soon arises–can the boys pull off their caper and make it out of town with the cash in their pockets, or will the mid-hymn arrival of a misfortunate stranger change Buddy and Alvo’s outlooks for good?
“Revival at Possum Kingdom Community Church” runs from October 5 to 21, with performances on Friday and Saturdays at 8pm for $20, Sunday matinees as 2pm for $15 and Thursday at 7pm for $15.
