Hands-On Healing:
Therapeutic Art Workshops for anyone affected by the fires

The Mendocino County Library, Ukiah Branch is hosting a series of “Hands-On Healing” art workshops. This series is available at no cost to anyone affected in any way by the fires in October 2017 or those of 2018, and no art experience is necessary. You don’t even have to consider yourself ‘artistic’. The point of the workshops is to offer a safe, reassuring group environment for participants to engage in various forms of process art to express oneself, communicate, and help in easing the trauma caused by the fires. The sessions will be led by artist, teacher, and fire survivor, Nori Dolan.

Workshop dates are as follows:

Saturday, 9/29
Saturday, 10/20
Saturday, 11/17
Saturday, 1/26
Saturday, 2/23
Saturday, 3/30

Children’s session is at 10am (children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult)
Teen & Adult session is at 11:30am.

Please call 707-463-4490 to sign up in advance. You are not required to attend every session.
This workshop series is free to the public and sponsored by the Mendocino County Library and a grant from the Redwood Valley and Santa Rosa Community Recovery Fund.

Art has been linked with lowering heart rates, less perceived stress, lower anxiety and reduced rates of depression, which can all be symptoms of emotional and psychological trauma.

Nori Dolan is a published writer, mosaic artist and photographer who has a background in the performing arts, including singing, dancing, improvisational theater and performance production. Having taught performing arts at the Community College level as well as visual arts in the public elementary school system, Nori also has extensive experience working with at-risk children and families as a social worker. Nori lost her home in the Redwood Complex Fire and is currently developing a program to work with agencies, families and individuals who have experienced loss and trauma.
