42nd Annual Great Day in Elk

42nd Annual Great Day in Elk

Presented by Greenwood Community Center at Greenwood Community Center

Great Day starts with a parade through town starting at noon on Highway 1. Festivities continue at the Community Center, with carnival games with prizes, do-it-yourself craft projects, and a bounce house for children.

There’s the famous $100 greased pole, a watermelon-eating contest, sack races, a silent auction, a crafts fair, a cake auction, mini-massages from local massage therapists, and a raffle drawing.

The afternoon entertainment on the outdoor stage includes live music by The Soul Shakedown, along with Trillium Tribe belly dancing and a juggling act. Go home with a T-shirt and/or hat to remember the day.

Daytime food includes barbecued oysters, old-fashioned hot dogs, fresh-baked focaccia bread, Moroccan lentil soup, chicken Caesar salad, tamales and lots of homemade sweet treats, including blackberry sundaes.

Quench your thirst with fresh-pressed Greenwood Ridge apple cider, Elk’s famous margaritas, local beer and wine, or a soft drink.

An outdoor BBQ dinner will be served from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., featuring grilled tri-tip or a stuffed portabella mushroom, along with polenta, black beans, and salad.

For the comfort and safety of humans, please leave much-loved dogs at home – they will be happier and can avoid the stress of noise, crowds, odors. Thank you. Hope you enjoy the day!
