LOBA Reading Series featuring Melissa Benham

Join us for a reading with Oakland poet, Melissa Benham!  Melissa is the author of At Sea and Codeswitching, along with several chapbooks. Open mic follows. Teens & adults are invited to share poems or fiction in any form or style.

Melissa Benham is the author of At Sea (Duration Press), Codeswitching (Subday Press) & the chapbooks repronounceable and surrealist object vs. narrated dream. Her work has appeared in Dusie, Capilano Review, How2, One Less, Shampoo & others. After graduating from Naropa’s School of Disembodied Poetics, she founded & ran the Artifact Reading Series in San Francisco & Oakland for six years. For many years, she taught poetry & playwriting to children & teens in Bay Area public schools, juvenile detention centers, and family homeless shelters. Currently, she works at Saint Mary’s College of California managing their great books program and January term. Melissa lives in Oakland, CA with poet, Brent Cunningham & their children, Mina & Jules.
