Cathy Monroe leads a family-friendly solar printing workshop in which visitors will learn how to create a photograph using the power of the sun. The photo theme continues as we also open a new pop-up exhibition featuring the photography of Ukiah’s own Jeff Trouette, who specializes in imagery of nature and adventure, with subjects spanning Mendocino County to locations around the world. Both programs are tied to our current special exhibition, Gathering Light: The Photographic Visions of Aryan Chappell, Roger Franklin, Amy Melious, and Robert Taylor, which will also be open for viewing, along with all our exhibit galleries and the Wild Gardens, which are blooming with spring wildflowers. The Museum will be open on First Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Please note, the solar print workshop will conclude at 7:00. Museum admission is FREE on First Friday; this includes the print workshop and pop-up exhibition.

W Real Estate 101 N State Street W Real Estate Paige Mayfield was born and raised in Mendocino County and while going to school and working she took on a hobby that filled her creative side. Paige was first introduced to the flower pressing when she was very young. It has always been a side hobby of hers and something she enjoyed doing in her free time. She soon realized how much she enjoyed this type of artwork, and wanted to share it with others. Although pressing flowers takes patience, it brings her a sense of peace. The ability to see nature through a different lens is what makes pressing flowers so much fun. All of the flowers she presses are 100% natural. Most of the flora picked and pressed is local to Mendocino County. Friends share their bouquets that are soon to wilt away to Paige, where she has the ability to give them another life. She has experience in pressing custom made pieces, wedding, funeral, engagement and any other special bouquet you hope to preserve. Each pressed piece created is unique and made with the utmost of love. Follow along with her flower pressing, assembling and sales by following her on Instagram @wildflowers.and.glass.–

Ukiah Valley Networking Agency 104 N School Street is honored to host Tim S Poma as our May artist. Tim will be showcasing brand new art as well as some of your favorites and prints for sale. Tim S. Poma is best known for his bright and colorful thrown and dripped paintings of landscapes, poppies, Volkswagens and abstract objects painted with latex house paint. Self-taught, Poma began painting as means of releasing emotions, specifically disappointment and frustration. Through his exploratory out bust of passion and a desire to create, Poma began throwing paint feverishly to alleviate his sadness, and in the process he found a joy he did not know existed. Poma has been painting ever since 2012 in the small Northern California town called Ukiah. Poma’s methods of creation include: dripping, smearing, throwing and finger-painting on canvas to get his desired look. He oftentimes uses tools such as a palette knife or a paint stir-stick to help with the creation of a given painting, and rarely uses paintbrushes but is not opposed. Although Poma was never formally trained as an artist, he has had several influential art teachers in his life who helped inspire his path as an artist. From his Color and Composition teacher at Mendocino College, Paula Grey, to his Ceramics teacher Doug Browe, each left a lasting impression on him that still inspires him today.

Mama’s Medicinals 328 N State Street Jacquelyn lives in Fort Bragg, Ca where she works as a full time artist in a wide variety of media from oil pastel, guauche and oil painting to upcycled clothing, ceramics, creative writing, cooking, and a few more. From earliest childhood she had a fascination with paint, clay, fabric, anything that might be used to create. She became serious about painting in particular at the age of 11 when she joined a plein-air painting group in Medford, Oregon. Jacquelyn graduated from Pacific Union College in Angwin, Ca, in 2003 with a double major in Fine Art and English: Writing. In 2004 she received a Post Graduate Degree in Fine Art from Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Ireland. Since then she has been involved in the art communities of Mendocino and Fort Bragg, Ca and Toledo and Newport, Or. She has exhibited publically since 1994 and is currently represented in multiple locations. Though Jacquelyn has only been a full time resident of the Mendocino coast since 2008, she vacationed here every summer since birth. In many ways the beaches, forests, boats and buildings are more home to her than any of the multiple places she lived previously.
